Suspicious death in Markham ruled homicide, victim identified

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit continue to seek witnesses following a murder in the City of Markham.

On Saturday, June 6, 2020 shortly after 9 p.m., York Regional Police received a report of a man who was injured outside of a residence on Marydale Avenue, which is in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Markham Road. When officers arrived they found a 45-year-old man from the City of Toronto who was suffering from life-threatening injuries. Paramedics attended, but the man succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation has revealed that the victim was murdered. He has been identified as Mathan Mahalingam, 45, from the City of Toronto.

The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time with a dashcam to please come forward.
