Loose wheel parts hit 4 vehicles on Hwy. 400 in Bradford

OPP reminds residents to regularly check and re-torque their wheel nuts

No one was injured, but four vehicles were struck by parts of a wheel that came loose on Highway 400 in Bradford July 25.

OPP reports the incident happened near the interchange at highways 400 and 88. The wheel flew off a vehicle that had been recently repaired at a garage.

“Thankfully, everybody’s OK; it’s just damage to vehicles,” OPP Const. Scott Stratton said. “No charges as they had barely gone 40 kilometres. He just had it done recently — hadn’t gone far enough to even have it re-torqued.”

Photographs posted by the OPP to social media show a wheel nut embedded in a windshield, among other damage.

“It shows how fast those things come off,” Stratton said. “You never know.”

OPP reminds residents to regularly check and re-torque their wheel nuts.
