A 33-year-old man from Barrie has been charged with first-degree murder in relation to a homicide that occurred last year in Vaughan.

Bradley Johnston was arrested following a shooting in August that resulted in the death of 57-year-old Jorge-Ivan Navas.

In the afternoon of Aug. 9, 2024, police responded to a residence in the area of Islington Avenue and Kiloran Avenue after a report of shots fired. Police found Navas in his driveway with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a trauma centre where he was pronounced deceased.

Two suspects arrived in a stolen black F-150 that has since been recovered, according to a York Regional Police news release.

Police say that they arrested a suspect in relation to the homicide Jan 29, but that at least one additional suspect remains outstanding.

Police believe this is a targeted incident and say there is no concern for public safety.

The investigation remains ongoing.
