Updated on Monday, July 15 at 5:15 p.m.: Regular train service has resumed along the Barrie GO Transit line following a fatality that occurred in Bradford earlier this afternoon.
South Simcoe police confirmed to Village Media that one person has died in the incident, which happened in the north-end of town.
"Just one single fatality," spokesperson Isabella Soligo said. "Officers are still investigating."
Media relations for Metrolinx, the parent agency of GO, says the fatality occurred around 1:30 p.m., north of the Bradford station. The train was carrying about 200 passengers southbound to Union Station in Toronto.
Buses were deployed to the area to help riders get to their final destinations, Metrolinx said via email.
"We anticipate some residual delays as we resume regular service," Metrolinx said, adding police have cleared the scene. “As with any fatality on the network, the matter is currently being investigated and we cannot provide further details at this time.”
There were delays and trip modifications on the Barrie line as a result of this incident.
