A Brampton man involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash a year ago in King Township has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
On Feb. 18, 2024, shortly before 7 a.m., police responded to the intersection of King Road and 8th Concession, where an Infiniti G37 had struck a light pole. There were six people in the car at the time. An 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene; three others suffered serious injuries. The driver was not injured.
Police said the vehicle was being driven at more than 200 km/h before the collision.
On Feb. 27, Denrick Rose, 19, was charged with dangerous operation causing death, dangerous operation causing bodily harm (three counts) and failure to comply with a release order. At the time of the collision, he was on a release order for unrelated charges.
On Feb. 3, a judge handed down the prison sentence, as well as a 10-year driver’s licence suspension.
“York Regional Police reminding the public that excessive speed is the most common contributing factor to fatal collisions. Your decisions behind the wheel can determine the future for you, your family and for other motorists,” police said in a news release.
