Arrest warrant issued for man charged in Schomberg shooting

An arrest warrant has been issued for a 27-year-old man wanted for removing a court-ordered GPS ankle bracelet in connection with a shooting in Schomberg.

Investigators arrested eight people and laid numerous charges in June in connection with Project Rebellion, an investigation that began as a result of the shooting in February, according to York Regional Police.

Brayan Jimenez-Arguijo, 27, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and participate in activities of a criminal organization. During his bail hearing, he was placed on several conditions, including that he remain in his residence between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and wear a GPS ankle bracelet at all times, police said.

On Aug. 27 at about 9:30 p.m., police learned that Jimenez-Arguijo had not returned to his residence in Toronto and that he had removed the GPS ankle bracelet. It was soon recovered by officers in a parking lot in the area of Islington Avenue and Bergamot Avenue, police said.

Investigators have searched for the suspect but have not yet located him. An arrest warrant has been issued. Police are appealing to the public for assistance in finding him. If seen, do not approach, call 911 immediately.

He is described as Latino, 5 feet 8 inches in height, 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He is charged with fail to comply with judicial release order.

Police are encouraging him to seek legal counsel and turn himself in immediately.

Investigators are also reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to the suspect while he is at large may be subject to criminal charges.
