A suspect carjacked a vehicle and threatened its owner with a gun, after fleeing with a stolen cellphone and shooting at another victim Saturday night in Vaughan.
The first victim had met with a person to sell him a cellphone Saturday, Jan. 18 at about midnight near Teston Road and Jane Street. However, the suspect stole the phone and fled on foot. When the victim gave chase, he discharged a firearm in the victim's direction, a York Regional Police news release said.
The victim was not injured.
A man then carjacked a Honda CR-V that was parked in a driveway, threatening the owner with the firearm, police said. The stolen vehicle was in a collision a short distance away and the suspect fled on foot, police said.
The suspect is described as male, white, approximately 16 years old, 130 lbs, dark hair, clean-shaven, wearing a dark jacket and black pants.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident, particularly one important witness who was operating a dark-coloured sport utility vehicle in the area at the time of the incident.
