A man found hiding in a stolen vehicle with a loaded firearm has been arrested, and fraudulent documents and suspected fentanyl has been seized, as part of a York Regional Police ongoing auto theft investigation.
During the investigation of thefts and trafficking of stolen vehicles, a suspect was identified, a news release stated. On Thursday, May 9, with the assistance of the emergency response unit, officers executed a warrant at a residence in Brampton, where a man was found hiding in the back of a stolen vehicle and when taken into custody, a loaded firearm fell from his waistband, police said.
Investigators seized a quantity of ammunition and prohibited firearm magazines, a quantity of a pink substance believed to be fentanyl, and numerous fraudulent documents, including government identification.
Jayveer Singh, 23, of Brampton is charged with:
- Unauthorized possession of firearm
- Carry concealed weapon
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of firearm knowing its purpose is unauthorized
- Careless use of a firearm
- Careless storage of ammunition
- Possession of a prohibited device x4
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Tamper with vehicle identification number
- forgery
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking x2
