Two health-care workers have been charged with multiple fraud-related offences after an elderly Newmarket victim reported nearly $1 million missing from a bank account.
Juvie Maputol, 38, of Richmond Hill was charged with theft by a person holding power of attorney, theft over $5,000, misappropriation of money held under direction, fraud over $5,000, fraudulent concealment, forgery theft of a credit card x3, unauthorized use of computer x2, identity theft x3, identity fraud x3 and laundering proceeds of crime, a York Regional Police news release said.
Lloyd Maputol, 37, also of Richmond Hill, was charged with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of crime.
On Aug. 22, 2024, an elderly victim reported to police that a large amount of money had been withdrawn from their bank account without their knowledge, police said.
Two suspects, one of whom was employed to care for the victim, had accessed the banking information, according to police.
A total of nearly $1 million was withdrawn from several financial institutions, police said.
Police say Lloyd Maputol is currently practising as a registered nurse and Juvie Maputol is employed as a personal support worker.
Investigators believe there to be more victims.
