Two Newmarket Hawks youth baseball teams won gold medals at the West Mountain Baseball Association Select tournament in Hamilton yesterday.
Both the 11U Mosquito and 13U Peewee teams faced off against the Guelph Royals for the championship game.
The Mosquitos had lost to Guelph earlier in the tournament, so were out to prove themselves against a great opponent, said 11U head coach Todd Roberts.
"They led for the entire championship game, playing stellar defence behind excellent pitching and won 7-2," Roberts said.
The Peewees mounted a tremendous 7th inning comeback to walk-it-off in dramatic fashion for an 11-10 victory,
Interestingly, the Peewees had also lost to Guelph in the tournament's regular round robin, added coach Susan Jagger.
