The annual NHL Alumni hockey game takes place in Newmarket this Sunday, Nov. 10, with former NHL stars lacing up their skates alongside law enforcement professionals, forming two formidable teams that will battle it out on the ice for Special Olympics.
The event will feature a roster of legendary NHL alumni, each with a storied career and a lasting impact on the sport. Fans can expect a fast-paced, entertaining game that will not only highlight the skill of these seasoned athletes but including York Regional Police members' brilliant play to make for a memorable experience for all ages, according to a Special Olympics news release.
Local businesses and sponsors have generously contributed to the event, helping to ensure its success and maximize the fundraising efforts, the news release said.
The NHL Alumni Benefit Tour supports the Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s mission “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”
The events are the fundraising arm of Special Olympics Ontario, thus allowing staff and volunteers to focus primarily on the athletes.
Doors open at 1 p.m., game starts at 2 p.m. at the Ray Twinney Complex, 100 Eagle St. West, Newmarket.
