York Region Transit service changes take effect this weekend

Changes include extension of Wellington route to Davis/Hwy. 404 carpool lot, adding back-to-school special routes

York Region Transit (YRT) schedule and route changes take effect Sunday, Sept. 1 to meet changing customer demand.  

YRT service changes are: 

  • Routes 7 – Martin Grove and 96 – Keele-Yonge: Introducing Sunday/Holiday service  
  • Route 9 – Ninth Line: Restructuring to provide two-way service in Stouffville  
  • Route 25 – Major Mackenzie: Introducing Saturday service  
  • Route 33 – Wellington: Restructuring and renaming Route 33 – Wellington-Leslie; extending service to Davis Drive/Highway 404 Carpool lot via Leslie Street

Back-to-school related changes

Starting Sunday, Sept. 1, YRT is reinstating school special routes for the 2024/2025 academic year and introducing two new school specials: 408 – Our Lady of the World School Special in Richmond Hill and 473 – Stephen Lewis School Special via Thomas Cook in Vaughan.      

YRT services many York Region high schools and post-secondary schools with schedules designed for frequent travel during peak times in the morning and afternoon rush hours. Youth (ages 13 to 19) and adults (ages 20 to 64) can enjoy discounted fares through the PRESTO card, Mobile Wallet and Transit App.  

Travelling to school with a bike? All YRT buses are equipped with two bicycle racks designed for easy handling. You pay regular fare but your bike rides for free.  Ensure you have a properly fitted helmet when travelling on a bike or scooter.
