Central York Fire Services put out a house fire on College Manor Drive caused by a wood stove Feb. 13.
Firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from the vents of a residence around 7:20 p.m., according to an incident report released Feb. 14. Crews responded with six vehicles.
“The crew connected the fire truck to a hydrant and entered the house to perform search and rescue and fire control,” the report said. “Crews discovered a fire that originated in a wood stove. All occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of CYFS.”
The fire department fully extinguished the fire according to the report, with a portion of College Manor Drive closed during the response. In total, 24 firefighters responded, with mutual aid provided by Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services, along with assistance from York Regional Police, York Region Paramedic Services, and utility companies.
CYFS said working smoke alarms and a home escape plan can save lives.
“Residential fires burn quickly – the quicker you are alerted to any smoke in the house, the more time you have to get occupants out to safety.,” the report said.
