Canada Day on Thursday, July 1 is a statutory holiday across the country.
With Ontario entering step 2 of the reopening plan yesterday, June 30, outdoor gatherings of up to 25 people are now allowed, as well as indoor gatherings with up to five people.
Outdoor cinemas, performing arts and live music events are now permitted with 25 per cent capacity.
The town is hosting a drive-in concert and fireworks show from 9 to 10:30 p.m. at the Magna Centre on Mulock Drive, however, the event has sold out and no walk-ins will be allowed.
What’s open:
- Parks, trails, and playgrounds
- Some grocery stores, including No Frills on Davis Drive from (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Walmart on Yonge Street (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and Walmart on Davis Drive (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Shoppers Drug Mart, including the Yonge & Savage location (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.), the Bayview & Stonehaven store (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.), and the Yonge & Davis location (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
- Gorman Outdoor Pool (1 to 7 p.m.), reservations required.
- Northern Heat Drive-Thru Ribfest at Upper Canada Mall’s southwest parking lot (noon to 8 p.m.)
- Stardust Drive-in Theatre
- GO Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule
- York Region Transit will be running on a Saturday schedule
What’s closed:
- All LCBO stores and many Beer Store locations, including the three Newmarket stores
- Upper Canada Mall
- Most banks and businesses
- Canada Post will not collect or deliver mail on July 1
- Newmarket waste pickup, residents whose normal collection day is Thursday are advised to put their bins out the following day, while those whose normal collection day is Friday will have collection on Saturday
- Newmarket Municipal Offices & Customer Service Centre, Magna Centre and Magna Fitness Centre remain closed due to COVID-19 measures
