Holiday Night of Lights, to Jan. 4: A display of 1.5 million LED lights is coming to Upper Canada Mall parking lot in Newmarket. Holiday Night of Lights will offer a walk-thru trail with festive activities, carnival rides and more. The event will run from 5 to 10 p.m. with bookings available at nightoflights.ca.

The Barra MacNeils - An East Coast Christmas: The show is a musical potpourri of traditional MacNeil family favourites gleaned from Christmas ceilidhs, midnight masses and the general festive frolic that accompanies each holiday season. With their captivating vocals, distinctive harmonies and extraordinary musicianship, The Barra MacNeils inject new life and energy into the sights and sounds of Christmas. Aurora Community Band's British Invasion: Join the Aurora Community Band for an afternoon of exciting music inspired by Britain. Music will include songs from The Beatles, Jesus Christ Superstar, Queen, James Bond as well as band classics by Gustav Holst, Edward Elgar and R. Vaughan Williams at 3:30 p.m. at Aurora Town Square Performance Hall. Tickets $18.50.

The Little Purrr-maid, Sunday, Dec. 22: The Very Useful Theatre Company and Panto Players present an interactive pantomime featuring fun for the whole family. Jackie English, former TVO host and actor in The Magic School Bus and Jackie’s School of Dance — has put together a stellar cast for a new pantomine. Jackie returns as the Cheshire Cat in The Little Purrr-maid along with the Pantos Players as your favourite sea creatures for the family friendly shows from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St., Newmarket. Aurora's Menorah Lighting Ceremony, Sunday, Dec. 29: The Town of Aurora, in partnership with Chabad Aurora, will host this year's Menorah Lighting Ceremony. Everyone is welcome to attend this ceremony along with the local Jewish community as they celebrate the Festival of Light. The ceremony will include the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods and a fire performance show starting at 4 p.m. at Aurora Town Square, 50 Victoria St.
Newmarket's First Night, Tuesday, Dec. 31: Ring in the new year with fun for the whole family at Newmarket's free Tim Hortons First Night 2024 at Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr. beginning at 1 p.m. with skating, swimming, figure skating Performances courtesy of the Newmarket Skating Club, outdoor concert with Switchbeat and a spectacular fireworks show at 6 p.m.
Aurora's Family First Night, Tues., Dec. 31: Celebrate the New Year with family and friends with free activities, including skating, swimming, bubble and magic shows, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Aurora Family Leisure Complex. Food donations for the Aurora Food Pantry are greatly appreciated.
Jack de Keyzer, Friday, Jan. 10: Back by popular demand, Jack de Keyzer perform at the Old Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Opening this evening is local musician and longtime bluesman Patrick Fockler and his trio, including his brother and Newmarket resident Andrew Fockler on drums along with Jamie Nicholas on Fender Bass. Jack de Keyzer, guitarist, singer, song writer and producer performs his high energy original blues, rock and soul charged music across Canada and the world in a career that is still going strong after 50 years.
