Friday, Oct. 4

Sam Polley and the Old Tomorrows:  Town of Newmarket presents a Culture Days event with Sam Polley and the Old Tomorrows at the NewRoads Performing Arts Centre for a free concert at 7:30 p.m (doors at 6:30 p.m.) NewRoads Performing Arts Centre, 505 Pickering Cres. Sam Polley and The Old Tomorrows blends genres to create an upbeat boogie and groovy hooks. Formed in downtown Toronto in 2017, Sam Polley and The Old Tomorrows draws its sound from '50s and '60s rockabilly licks, old country twang, and Motown swing, blending genres to create an upbeat boogie and groovy hooks, that’s sure to make anyone listening get up and dance. Sweet Soul Music with George St. Kitts & Cocktail Lounge Experience: Juno-nominated R&B and soul singer George St. Kitts takes centre stage as part of a cocktail lounge evening that includes Town Square-themed cocktails from the Armoury and food selections from local chefs as part of the Aurora Town Square grand opening celebrations at 7:30 at the Performance Hall. Tickets, $32.40

Aurora Bridge Club: Play duplicate bridge weekly with the Aurora club at the Newmarket Veterans Association, 406 Millard Ave., from 12:15 to 4 p.m., open games Wednesdays and Fridays, Thursday 0-500. Price $6 to $10.

Saturday, Oct. 5

Newmarket ArtWalk, Oct. 5 and 6: The Newmarket Group of Artists hosts its annual art walk Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with 44 artists exhibiting work at 11 venues around Newmarket's downtown in public venues and local businesses near Main Street. The lineup showcases a blend of established artists and fresh talent working in a wide range of mediums, including jewelry, fine art, leatherwork, ceramics, painting, photography, textiles, and more. 

Aurora Cultural Centre presents Martha Chaves: Nicaraguan-Canadian comedy celebrity and émigré returns to Aurora with a focus on immigration to Canada. Newcomers to the country are shaping the identity of our culture and Martha loves to poke fun at all the issues arising. Prominent nationally from her appearances on CBC Radio’s Because News, The Debaters and Laugh Out Loud she will appear in "I Got My Papers" alongside Fiona O'Brien, Danish Anwar, all hosted by Ali Hassan. Tickets, $38.50, for the show at 7:30 p.m. at Aurora Town Square Performance Hall.

S.M.A.R.T. Realty Solutions' Fall Community Fundraiser Shredding Event: Support CHATS at this community shredding event from noon to 2 p.m. outdoors at The Residences on Yonge, 15520 Yonge St., Aurora. Book a time slot and bring your unwanted documents to shred. The shredding is done while you wait. There is no cost, but donations of $10 per box of shredding is requested, with all money raised supporting older adults in our community.

ClearWater Farm Harvest Celebration: Bring your family and friends for a free day of fall fun and community spirit amid the beautiful autumn scenery on the shores of Lake Simcoe. Enjoy shopping the seasonal farmstand and local makers, harvest-themed family photo sessions and art activities, food and drinks, including a festival beer garden, and dog costume contest. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1614 Metro Rd. North, Willow Beach. More details here.

Guhan Way Foundation Harvest Festival: Guhah Way Harvest Festival celebrates harvest season and the end of Organic Month with a family event at Woodbine Farm from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 16529 Woodbine Ave, Newmarket, featuring bouncy castles and games, entertainment, a scavenger hunt, hay rides, delicious local organic food and farmers market, and family raffles prizes. Tickets $10 to $30.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: The Newmarket Farmers' Market at Riverwalk Commons, on Doug Duncan Drive, where you can connect with local farmers, enjoy delicious treats, discover unique artisans, take in some live music, and enter a draw for a market basket, while visiting with family and friends. The market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October.

Aurora Farmers' Market & Artisan Fair: Shop local, shop fresh at the Aurora Farmers' Market Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Oct. 26 at 49 Wells St. (northeast corner of Town Park) featuring artisans, farmers, food vendors and community groups.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine.  Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Sunday, Oct. 6

Newmarket ArtWalk: The Newmarket Group of Artists hosts its annual art walk from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with 44 artists exhibiting work at 11 venues around Newmarket's downtown in public venues and local businesses near Main Street. The lineup showcases a blend of established artists and fresh talent working in a wide range of mediums, including jewelry, fine art, leatherwork, ceramics, painting, photography, textiles, and more. 

Newmarket Vinyl Record & Collectibles Show: The show features 35 tables of vinyl LPs & 45s, plus books, cassettes, CDs, DVDs t-shirts and memorabilia from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Newmarket Legion, 707 Srigley St., Newmarket. Admission $5 cash only.

World Premiere Screening of The Rug: Be first to see THE RUG at this free event at 7 p.m. at the Aurora Town Square Performance Hall. In early 2024, a group of senior citizens from York Region came together to create a short horror film called The Rug, filmed entirely in Aurora. Their activities were funded in part by the federal government's New Horizons for Seniors Program. In addition, local award-winning filmmaker Sean Cisterna will showcase clips from Silver Screamers, his feature documentary on the making of The Rug. Please note that this event will be filmed as part of the Silver Screamers feature-length documentary. By attending this event, you consent to being filmed as part of the audience. Reserve your seat here.

Newmarket Cycles Group Ride: Explore Newmarket by bike at Newmarket Cycles’ free family-friendly group ride from 3 to 4 p.m., starting and ending 470 Davis Dr. Rides are typically about 10 km long and explore trails, quiet residential streets, and local cycling infrastructure. No registration required.

Colours of Fall Concert: The Town of Aurora holds its final concert of the season, the Colours of Fall, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Aurora Town Park, 49 Wells St., with Neil Young tribute band Gold Rush, corn roast and pumpkin carving (while supplies last).
