Saturday, June 8

Cheer on Connor McDavid Stanley Cup Viewing Party:  You can cheer on Newmarket's hometown hockey star with the entire community as Connor McDavid vies for the Stanley Cup for the first time. The Town of Newmarket is renaming Riverwalk Commons Connor McDavid Square for the duration of the playoffs, as McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers take on the Florida Panthers for hockey’s top trophy. The Game 1 viewing party starts at 8 p.m. at Riverwalk Commons, bring your lawn chairs, food and beverage will be available for purchase on site. The town will also be distributing free towels (orange or blue) to the first 600 people who bring a non-perishable food donation for the Newmarket Food Pantry.

Upper Canada Mall Pride Celebration, June 8 and 9: Newmarket's Upper Canada Mall is partnering with York Pride to bring community events to York Region in celebration of Pride Month. Festivities include a photo wall, a gumball machine where the gumballs feature keywords to ignite conversations, face painting and friendship bracelet making June 8 to 9, from noon to 5 p.m. at Market Court. Representatives from York Pride will be on site to share community resources. More details here.

In Tune With Nature: Aurora Community Band performs an exciting new repertoire for wind ensemble at its spring concert, In Tune With Nature, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria St, Aurora. Tickets $20 online or at the door.

Yoga for Beginners, Aurora Town Square:  Whether you’re seeking health and joy or peace and love, success in the world or inner exploration, join the free Yoga for Beginners session from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Aurora Town Square - Program Room 1, Aurora Public Library, 15145 Yonge St. Learn seven powerful yet simple practices that include directional movement of the arms, neck practices, yoga namaskar, nadi shuddhi, nada yoga, shambhavi mudra, namaskar process. Reserve in advance. Ages: 7+ (those 7-17 to be accompanied by a parent/guardian)

BRAVE for Girls, Saturday, June 8: Northridge Church hosts BRAVE, a free one-day event created to remind girls that they are valuable and worth being celebrated. Aimed at girls aged 12 to 16, BRAVE is a day filled with music, art therapy classes, lunch, candy, a self-defence class, and swag bag from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Register here.

Newmarket Farmers' Market: It's the 25th season of the Newmarket Farmers' Market at Riverwalk Commons, on Doug Duncan Drive, where you can connect with local farmers, enjoy delicious treats, discover unique artisans, take in some live music, and enter a draw for a market basket, while visiting with family and friends. The market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October.

Aurora Farmers' Market & Artisan Fair: Shop local, shop fresh at the Aurora Farmers' Market Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Oct. 26 at 49 Wells St. (northeast corner of Town Park) featuring artisans, farmers, food vendors and community groups.

Market Brewing 7th Anniversary Party: Market Brewing is hosting its free anniversary party outdoors from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some seating or bring lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy the day from the licensed grassy area (if it rains the party is indoors) at 17775 Leslie St., Newmarket. Ghost Taco will be serving tacos, Tangent will play live from 1 to 4 p.m. Bouncy castle for the kids, dog welcome. 

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine.  Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Lavender Polo Farm: The family lavender farm in East Gwillimbury is open for summer season with weekly farmer/vendor markets, weekly workshop sessions, monthly events, performances, natural products, and lavender picking in six fields with four different species of lavender totalling 100,000+ plants on 155 acres. New activities this year features weekly picnic bookings, candle and other maker workshops, and harvesting your own lavender plants. Newmarket Car Club's Main Street Custom & Classic Car Show: Custom and classic cars, bikes and trucks are welcome. $10 fee to enter a vehicle, no admission fee to view. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street Newmarket. Awards, prizes, draws. Rain date June 23.

Newmarket Cycles Group Ride: Explore Newmarket by bike at Newmarket Cycles’ free family-friendly group ride from 3 to 4 p.m., starting and ending 470 Davis Dr. Rides are typically about 10 km long and explore trails, quiet residential streets, and local cycling infrastructure. No registration required.

Highway 11 Cruisers Father's Day Car Show, Sunday, June 16: Highway 11 Cruisers host a car show at the Home Depot plaza parking lot, at the Home Depot on Bayview Avenue, Aurora from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hot rods, rat rods, classics, trucks, motorcycles, super cars, race cars are all welcome. If you don't have a ride to show, bring Dad to the show. Admission is free, a donation to the charity recipient of the event is requested.  for purchase.
