This Thanksgiving weekend, enjoy one last concert in the park at Aurora's Colours of Fall Concert, catch a free film at the library, explore a corn maze in the dark, groove to the best ABBA tribute band, browse a pre-loved fashion market

Thursday, Oct. 5

Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games. 

Colours of Fall Concert:  As the colourful leaves fall off the trees, come enjoy one last concert in Aurora's Town Park, 49 Wells St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The concert includes live music with The Mudmen, pumpkin carving and corn roast. These Celtic warriors have had an incredible journey, including performing the new Hockey Night in Canada theme song to performing on Capital Hill on a few Canada Days, opening for ZZ Top and the The Guess Who, and more. Complimentary pumpkins and carving tools available for families to showcase their carving skills (while supplies last).

Friday, Oct. 6

Film Fridays at Newmarket Public Library: No registration required, just drop in and enjoy a free movie in the multipurpose room at 2 p.m., doors open at 1:45 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Oct. 6 Bones of Crows (2022) A powerful drama about Cree Matriarch Aline Spears, who survives Canada's residential school system to continue her family's generational fight in the face of systemic starvation, racism, and sexual abuse. Rated 14A

Big Shiny '90s Rock at Market Brewing Company: It's all '90s, all night at Market Brewing, beginning at 7:30 p.m., 17775 Leslie St., Unit 4, Newmarket.

Cooper's Farm Night Maze, Oct. 6 to 26: Explore the corn maze in the dark — note, this is not a Halloween scare maze. Tickets, $23 to $30/person, no charge for children under age three, at 266 Ashworth Rd., Zephyr from 7 to 9 p.m. (check in opens at 6:30 p.m.) One pumpkin included with admission.

Saturday, Oct. 7

Mission IV Gospel Artists: Church of The Nazarene, 79 Main St. South, Newmarket hosts a free gospel concert at 7 p.m. Dessert, coffee at 6 p.m.

Abba Revisited: ABBA Revisited recreates the magic of ABBA with authentic costumes, spectacular harmonies and note-perfect musicianship, taking their audiences on a musical journey back in time. They are North America's No. 1 tribute to ABBA and have been dazzling audiences across the globe since 2001. Tickets close to selling out, at NewRoads Performing Arts Centre at 8 p.m.

Aurora Fashion Market: The market offers pre-loved (used) clothing, alongside beautiful pop-up boutiques from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stronach Arena, 1400 Wellington St. East. Shop hundreds of clothes, browse small businesses, groove out to music, grab a bunch of flowers from the on-site florist, and let you kids play in the shaded play area. Newmarket Farmers' Market: Every Saturday morning to October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Riverwalk Commons in historic downtown Newmarket is transformed into a vibrant market space, featuring the harvest festival today. Connect with local farmers, enjoy a delicious treat, discover unique artisans or take in some live music while visiting with family and friends. Wool and Wine Workshop: Spend an afternoon creating your own chunky hand-knit pumpkins with @nicnakknits from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at Wine On Main, 186 Main St. S, Newmarket. This workshop includes a set of three pumpkins (small, medium and large), all materials including yarn, stuffing, stems and finishing jute are included in the purchase of this ticket and $25 wine card to use at Ontario’s only self serve wine bar. International Jive--The Basics for Your Next Energetic Dance, Sundays, to Nov. 12: Simple Social Dancing invites you to come and learn how to dance to music such as Shania Twain's Man, I Feel Like a Woman, rock tunes (think Miley Cyrus’ Flowers) or Christina Aguilera’s Candyman and Big Band swing music at Newmarket Public Library, 638 Park Ave., from 5 to 6:10 p.m. Registration $5.

Charcuterie and Chardonnay, Friday, Oct. 13: Join the first annual fundraising event for CFUW Aurora/Newmarket scholarship program, presented by NewRoads Mazda, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Learn the secrets of creating a beautiful and delicious charcuterie board with chef, Anne-Marie Million of A Million Mouthfuls. Guests will enjoy wine provided by Trayvino Wine Company. The event will be held at NewRoads Mazda, 349 Mulock Dr. in Newmarket. 15th Annual Newmarket Artwalk & Studio Tour, Oct. 14 & 15: The 15th Annual Art Walk & Studio Tour is a free walkable event in and around Newmarket’s historic downtown district. Visitors are able to see a wide variety of juried, original art on display in artists’ home studios, in local businesses, and at public facilities. The tour is a great opportunity to visit with artists, purchase original art, and enjoy Newmarket’s amazing restaurants, cafes and shops. On Main Street Newmarket, 461 Park Ave., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jersey Nights, Saturday, Oct. 21: Jersey Nights tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons sell out venues everywhere they perform. They will have you singing and dancing in your seat all night long, featuring songs such as Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Oh, What a Night. Tickets, $32 to $55, here, at NewRoads Performing Arts Centre at 8 p.m. 

Wedding Show, Sunday, Oct. 22: Silver Lakes Golf Club hosts a free wedding show at its picturesque golf course with an outside ceremony site and covered pavilion, with local vendors to help you plan your wedding. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 21114 Yonge St, East Gwillimbury.

NACCA Gala and Volunteer Appreciation Night, Thursday, Oct. 26: Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association hosts its 5th anniversary celebration, fall fundraising wrap-up and appreciation of volunteers at the Old Town Hall from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., including a three-course meal, complimentary glass of wine, live music and entertainment, raffle. Proceeds go to NACCA’s programs and community support. Limited tickets, $161 each, available.

Singalong with Russ Fall Concerts, Saturday, Oct. 28: Children’s entertainer Russ is back at Newmarket Public Library for his annual fall concert, a fun, interactive show. Children age six months to 5 years and families love the songs, the laughter, and having a great time. 10 to 10:45 a.m., and 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Drag Queen Storytime with the Haus of Devereaux, Saturday, Nov. 4: Drop by Newmarket Public Library for this fun, family storytime event returning by popular demand and featuring E’Claire and Athena from the Haus of Devereaux. Enjoy acclaimed and age appropriate 2SLGBTQ+ stories, crafts and plenty of fun for everyone. Story sessions will be at approximately 2 and 3 p.m.  No registration required.
