Friday, Jan. 3

Aurora Bridge Club: Play duplicate bridge weekly with the Aurora club at the Newmarket Veterans Association, 406 Millard Ave., from 12:15 to 4 p.m., open games Wednesdays and Fridays, Thursday 0-500. Price $6 to $10.

Holiday Nights of Lights:  A massive light show wraps up this weekend at Upper Canada Mall. Go through a walkway with more than 1.5 million LED lights, featuring food, carnival rides and more. Starting from 5 p.m. Adult tickets $20.99, more information at nightsoflights.ca.

Saturday, Jan. 4

Blood Donation Event: Donors are needed now to ensure hospitals remain stocked with life-essentials for patients throughout the winter. Clinic at York Region Administrative Centre, 17250 Yonge St., Newmarket from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Book your appointment at blood.ca, on the GiveBlood app or by calling 1-888-236-6283.

Aurora Mayor and Council Levee: The Mayor and Council Levee is a festive opportunity for the community to a meet with council and enjoy family activities such as skating, a pancake breakfast and more from 10 a.m. to noon at Aurora Town Square, 50 Victoria St., Aurora. 

Newmarket Mosaic Lamp Making Workshop: DIY Labs offer a workshop for making a traditional Mosaic Turkish lamp to illuminate your home with a unique lamp created by assembling different coloured and shaped pieces of glass and beads from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, 200 Doug Duncan Dr., Newmarket. Cost $69 to $139.

English Country Dance: Join the dance at Trinity United Church, 461 Park Ave. at Main Street, Newmarket from 2 to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome; all dances taught; you don't need to bring a partner. Admission by donation; your first class is free. Join the group on the first, third and (when there is one) fifth Saturday of the month.

Aurora ComiCon: Comic Con features vendors selling comic books, toys, video games, sports cards, jewelry and pretty much anything geeky cool from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at  Aurora Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385, 105 Industrial Parkway North. $5 adults, charge for children 12 and under.

GWC Live Wrestling Charity Event: Great Canadian Wrestling present wrestling superstars from all over Ontario with special guest WWE HOF Rikishi at the Aurora Legion, 105 Industrial Parkway North, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets adult $20, kids 12 and under $10 in advance or $15 at the door, front row reserved seats $30.

Jack de Keyzer, Friday, Jan. 10: Back by popular demand, Jack de Keyzer perform at the Old Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Opening this evening is local musician and longtime bluesman Patrick Fockler and his trio, including his brother and Newmarket resident Andrew Fockler on drums along with Jamie Nicholas on Fender Bass. Jack de Keyzer, guitarist, singer, song writer and producer performs his high energy original  blues, rock and soul charged music across Canada and the world in a career that is still going strong after 50 years. Tickets $40.

ABBA Revisted, Saturday, Jan. 11:  ABBA Revisited Tribute Show is a musical performance that pays homage to the legendary Sweedish pop group ABBA.  This tribute show features talented performers who capture the essence and energy of ABBA's music and stage presence.  Audiences can expect to hear all the classic ABBA hits, such as Dancing Queen, Mama Mia, Waterloo and more at New Roads Performing Arts Centre, Newmarket at 8 p.m. Tickets adult $54.80, child 12 to $32.20.

Dom Pare: Long Overdue Stand-Up Comedy Album Launch, Saturday, Jan. 11: After decades of touring across Canada and the U.S., from small town bar shows, to iconic theatres, to televised festivals, Dom Pare is launching an album, Long Overdue, at 8 p.m. at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket. Accompanying Dom will be some of his best comedic friends bringing their own hilarious takes and fresh perspectives. A must-see night full of laughter for friends and family alike (18 and over.) Tickets $30.

Campbell, Fagan and Park Trio, Friday, Jan. 17: Aurora Cultural Centre presents Campbell, Fagan, Park Trio at Aurora Town Square Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. Trio includes James Campbell (clarinet), Leslie Fagan (soprano) and Angela Park (piano).Tickets $40.

Burns Night Supper, Saturday, Jan. 18:  Celebrate Robbie Burns with the York Regional Police Pipes and Drums, members and volunteers for a fine roast beef dinner with haggis, neeps and tatties, followed by Scottish country dancing, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at Stonehaven Banquet Hall, 63 Eric T Smith Way, Aurora. Attendees should don highland dress or business casual. Tickets, $95.

Barefoot in the Park, Jan. 16 to 25: Newmarket Stage Company presents Neil Simon's Barefoot In The Park at Old Town Hall. Tickets, $20, at box office 289-500-2114 from noon to 5 p.m.

Newmarket Folk Society presents Dala, Saturday, Jan. 25: Newmarket Folk Society kicks off its 2025 season with Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Juno nominees and winners of the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year Dala. Darlings of the Canadian music scene, Dala are now poised to bring their fresh brand of acoustic pop music to the world. Dala’s latest album, Best Day, was nominated for three Canadian Folk Music Awards: English Songwriter of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year and Producer of the Year. John Sheard's Salute to the Beatles, Saturday, Jan 25: Aurora Cultural Centre celebrates 15 years with a Beatles Tribute at Davide DeSimone Performance Hall at Aurora Town Square at 7:30 p.m. Back by popular demand, legendary piano man John Sheard is joined by favourite performers from his past shows, including Mia Sheard, David Celia, Steve Briggs, Denis Pendrith, and Ryan Granville-Martin. The Beatles song catalogue is the hymn book of a generation, familiar to all and such a great way to look back at the impact of music at the ACC. Tickets $50.

27th Annual Newmarket Voice Festival, Feb. 18 to 22: Applications are open for the annual festival at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket, with many scholarships available to be won.
