What Newmarket, York Region facilities are closed this holiday season

Town offices, Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, Magna Centre to have hours reduced over holidays

Newmarket and York Region will be closing several facilities for the holiday season.

Municipal offices will be closed for parts of the next two weeks due to Christmas and New Year's. However, many services and facilities will continue or be partly available.

Here is what municipal facilities will be open and closed this holiday season:

Newmarket municipal office

-Municipal offices will be closed from Dec. 23 to 26, as well as from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1.

-Dec. 22 will have reduced hours from 8:30 a.m. to noon,  and Dec. 27 to 29 will be reduced to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

-Normal hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will resume Jan. 2.

-Schedules for drop-in programs during the holidays are available through the Newmarket website

Ray Twinney Recreation Complex

-The facility will be closed from Dec. 24 to 26, as well as from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1.

-On Dec. 23, the hours will be reduced to 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

-Customer service kiosk hours will be:
-Dec. 22, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
-Dec. 27 to 28, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
-Dec. 29, 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dec. 30, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
-Jan. 2, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr.

The facility will be closed from Dec. 25 to 26, Jan. 1.

-Facility to be open for First Night Newmarket event on Dec. 31.

The customer service kiosk hours will be:
Dec. 22, 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dec. 23, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Dec. 24, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dec. 27 to 29, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dec. 30, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Jan. 2, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Magna Fitness Centre
-Facility closed Dec. 25, 26, Jan. 1

Facility hours over holidays:
Dec. 22, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dec. 23, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dec. 24, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with no group fitness classes
Dec. 27 to 29, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dec. 30, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dec. 31, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jan. 2 to Jan. 3, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Newmarket Public Library

-Closed from Dec. 24 to Dec. 26 and Dec. 31 to Jan. 1.

-Facility hours over holidays:
Dec. 22 to 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dec. 27 to 28, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Dec. 29 to 30, 9 a.,m. To 5 p.m.
Jan. 2, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.


Recreation Youth Centre and Skate Park

-Closed Dec. 24 to Dec. 26 and Dec. 31 to Jan. 1.

Facility hours over holidays:
-Dec. 22, 4 p.m,. To 9 p.m
-Dec. 23, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
-Dec. 27, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
-Deck. 28, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
-Dec. 29 to 30, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
-Jan. 2, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Seniors’ Meeting Place

The facility is closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1. The only exemption is the New Year’s Eve Dance.

The facility will be open: 
Dec. 22, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dec. 23, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Jan. 2, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Mercedes-Benz Skating Feature at Riverwalk Commons

-Will remain open daily from 9 a,.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting


York Region

-General offices will be closed from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1, reopening Jan. 2

Access York

-Call centre and Closed Dec. 25 to 27, and Jan. 1
-Contact centre will be open from Dec. 26 to 27, 
-In-person service centre closed from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1 inclusive
-Hours will return to normal Jan. 21

COVID-19 vaccination clinics

-All York Region clinics will be closed from Dec. 24 to 26, and Dec. 31 to Jan. 1. 


Mobility on request paratransit contact centre

-Centre closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.

Provincial offences court

The provincial offences court closed from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1, reopening Jan. 2.

York Region Transit

-The YRT transit centre will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
-From Dec 26 to 29, hours 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
-From Dec. 30 to 31, hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

-Free travel is available on all routes Dec. 31 after 7 p.m.


York Region Waste depots

-Closed Dec. 25, 26, Jan. 1.
