Patrons of a Vaughan restaurant that was not keeping required customer records are being asked to self-isolate after five employees have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

York Region Public Health has issued a public notice for staff and patrons who visited Café Landwer at 9340 Bathurst St. about a potential exposure to COVID-19 from March 19 to 24.

Anyone at the restaurant during that time period is being asked to self-isolate for 14 days after their visit to the restaurant, closely monitor for signs and symptoms, and get tested if symptoms develop, according to Patrick Casey, York Region spokesperson.

As of April 1, five confirmed cases and two probable cases of COVID-19 have been identified among staff at the restaurant, he said.

Of the confirmed cases, three are York Region residents, one is a Toronto resident and one is a Simcoe resident. The two probable cases are York Region residents.

"York Region Public Health has followed up with all known close contacts and continues to investigate and conduct case management. However, the restaurant did not maintain a patron list, resulting in the need for a public notice," Casey said.

An inspection was conducted on Wednesday, March 31 and a $1,000 fine was issued for lack of maintaining a patron list for contact tracing and not having a COVID-19 safety plan, he said.
