It’s back to Square 1 for the People’s Party of Canada in the Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte riding as Newmarket native Karmangah Tait has withdrawn his name as the party's candidate in the upcoming federal election.
Six days after announcing the 23-year-old Tait would represent the PPC in the Oct. 21 election, the party is now without a candidate.
The Lakehead University student said he's bowing out due to time constraints.
“Mainly because of the time commitments, I have to announce that I am withdrawing my name from the candidacy,” he said. “I do plan on staying on until they can find a replacement, but I just find that running isn’t in my best interests or the party’s.”
The party riding association president, Daniel Boucher, had not yet heard Tait was pulling out.
“That’s news to me," Boucher said. "I haven’t spoken to my candidate recently, so I am going to have to say no comment at this time. It’s obviously not good news.”
