The Town of Newmarket is reminding residents to keep vehicles off the streets as snow plows make their way through the community.

After a massive dump of snow over the weekend, the town said crews continue to plow and salt roads in a Feb. 17 update. But it said area residents are creating some difficulties with their parking choices.

“Crews have encountered some plowing challenges due to vehicles parked on the street. If possible, please avoid parking on the street so that plows can clear the streets safely,” the municipality said.

The town is under a significant weather declaration, indicating the roadways will take longer than usual to clear. Plows will be focusing on clearing primary routes, and then move onto residential streets.

The town said it would continue throughout the day, but that residual clean-up of the massive snow will take place throughout the week.

Environment Canada is projecting some reprieve from massive snowfall, but some risk of snow could still occur for Family Day, with about five centimetres forecasted during the day and another five centimetres overnight.

More information on the town’s snow clearing is available at newmarket.ca/snowclearing.
