Come one, come all to an out-of-the-ordinary circus experience.
Army of Sass Newmarket is presenting Sideshow Saturday, March 16 at Old Town Hall (460 Botsford St.) at 7 and 9:30 p.m. This big top themed performance is a story about the darker side of the circus told through heels dance.
“Most importantly, Sideshow celebrates the extraordinary differences of humanity,” said Jennifer Arbour, Army of Sass Newmarket general and licensed owner.
Army of Sass is a training and performance group with locations across North America. The Newmarket troupe, established in 2016, has already grown to more than 60 dancers.
Sideshow is the local group’s eighth production.
“You can expect even more from this event with bonus circus-themed talent and entertainment during our pre-show festivities,” Arbour said.
Army of Sass offers an inclusive and supportive environment for women to gain confidence through sassy heels dance. It is unique in that it is for everyone, no dance experience is required to be part of the “Army”.
“When I heard this session theme was Sideshow, my jaw nearly dropped. I knew the dances and costumes would be amazing,” said performer Sara May. “I can’t wait to perform with everyone and show the audience what a great time we all have on stage.”
There are not many opportunities for adult dancers, explains performer Natasha Philpott, who said she is grateful for the chance to be part of Army of Sass.
“This circus theme show is really fun. I love that we get to do four different numbers and be four different circus characters,” Philpott said.
The circus is in town and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here. Doors open one hour before show times.
