Don't throw out your jack-o'-lanterns just yet! You can bring your carved creation to Newmarket's Pumpkin Parade for a chance to win a prize.
On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Newmarket residents can bring their pumpkin to Riverwalk Commons between 3 and 6 p.m. They will be put out on display for people to come and enjoy from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
There is also a competition element and the pumpkins will be judged with prizes for four categories: Jack-of-all-Lanterns, Cutest Pumpkin, Scariest Pumpkin, and Most Creative.
Guest who attend the parade will be able to vote for their favourite pumpkins.
Last year's top jack-o-lantern was a detailed lion decorated by Alyssa and Jeff Morgan. The cutest pumpkin was a pink-painted creation by Rebecca Song.
There was a tie for the scariest between one carved to look like Pennywise from IT by Faye Sakkas and another that looked like a prison with skeletons inside.
There was also a tie for the most creative between a painted two-part Skeleton Jack pumpkin and an intricately carved face by John Bot.
If you are interested in entering your pumpkin, there are some guidelines to follow. You have to be a resident of Newmarket to enter.
Your pumpkin can either be carved or painted. The Town of Newmarket will provide LED tealights to go inside the carved ones.
Each entry will be assigned a number at drop-off, which will be used in the voting process.
After the event, all pumpkins submitted will go into yard waste.
