The York Regional Police Association's recent golf tournament has raised a record-breaking $13,000.
More than 150 golfers took part in the tournament at RedCrest Golf Club in King on Monday, June 6. This was the association's 32nd annual memorial golf fundraiser.
Part of the proceeds from the tournament support Salvation Army Central York Region.
“In the last eight years, this tournament has raised over $70,000 for the Salvation Army Central York Region,” said Rob O’Quinn, president of York Regional Police Association. “And this year’s tournament was no exception. The participation and generosity of our golfers and sponsors made this tournament a great success and enabled us to raise funds so the Salvation Army can continue to provide hope and support to children, families and individuals that need it most.”
This was the first time the golf tournament has been held in person since the pandemic. However, the police association continued to support the Salvation Army in 2020 and 2021 by making a donation of $10,000.
“The Salvation Army Central York Region is honoured to have a lengthy relationship with the YRPA and receive donations from the Annual Memorial Golf Tournament. With these funds we can enhance local services and programs that impact the lives of vulnerable community individuals and families,” said Major Brian Bishop, Salvation Army Central York Region.
Money from the golf tournament also supports the York Regional Police Association’s Benevolent Fund, which helps police association members and their families due to death, illness or injury.
The tournament is held in memory of York Regional Police officers killed in the line of duty.
