An extensive power outage in Newmarket affected approximately 2,056 homes this mornings , according to NT Power.

The outage is in the area of Davis Drive, south to St. John’s Sideroad, and east to Leslie Street.

NT Power says that crews have been dispatched, but there’s currently no estimated time for the outage as they look into the issue.

“We have an outage at one of our stations,” Alex Braletic, Newmarket-Tay Power, vice-president, engineering and operations, told NewmarketToday. “We’re currently working on restoring power.”

The outage at the station was caused by equipment failure, Braletic said, and there’s an investigation underway as to what caused the failure.

“We have crews on site at our station, but also have crews on site looking to switch power back onto our customers quicker,” he said. “We’re looking to rectify the situation with the equipment, but also making sure we get customers back on.”
