The Main Street Arts Club is returning to Newmarket for a second pop-up gallery in May.

The club is the brainchild of Lora and Oliver Osborne. It aims to make art fun by moving away from the traditional gallery space and hosting pop-ups like the upcoming one at Old Flame Brewing Co. on May 7 and 8.

“If you didn’t happen to be taken to a lot of galleries as a kid, the typical art gallery experience is pretty unwelcoming, so we’re just trying to create environments that are much more welcoming," he said.

Their pop-ups aim to create more of a party environment rather than a typical gallery. They also add additional content like posters about the artists featured and detailed descriptions so visitors can learn about everything.

Guided tours can be booked but there are limited time slots available. You can email [email protected] to book a tour.

Anyone else can RSVP online but this isn't required. Admission to the event is also completely free.

For those who want something to sip on while you take in the art, you can order some of Old Flame's award-winning beer while there.

Previously, on Feb. 5, they hosted their first Newmarket pop-up at the brewing company. The event attracted a number of visitors including Mayor John Taylor.

Osborne said they are planning to host quarterly pop-ups in town, with others in the summer and the fall.

“The goal for the year is to really make this a real cornerstone event for the Newmarket calendar." he said.

The pop-up runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both days.
