The Town of Newmarket is bringing free concerts back to the downtown with its Music in the Park series starting tomorrow, July 20.

Registration for the first show is now open, featuring the local band John Lemme and Daughters. The concert requires pre-registration with a maximum capacity of 200 participants.

"It's exciting to see us getting back closer to normal with the return of concerts at the Riverwalk Commons," Mayor John Taylor said on social media.

The concerts are possible with the province moving to step three in its reopening strategy July 16, allowing for larger outdoor gatherings. However, participation is capped due to public health restrictions.

The municipality said masking will still be required if people cannot maintain two metres of distance between themselves and those outside their social circle.

Another concert is planned July 27, featuring the Bianca Rollo Band. Registration for that event opens July 21.

The town said if there is inclement weather, both shows could be cancelled, with no change of date or registration transfer.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs for the event, as the municipality will not provide any.

The shows both begin at 7 p.m. at the Riverwalk Commons and are for Newmarket residents only. Mandatory pre-registration is available at newmarket.ca/musicinthepark.
