Ontario reports 1,536 new COVID cases Monday

The latest updates also include 800 recoveries and one death

Public Health Ontario is reporting 1,536 new COVID-19 cases today for Dec. 12.

The latest updates also include 800 recoveries and one death.

York Region Public Health does not provide weekend updates to its public dashboard.

The Dec. 13 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • There are 11,538 active cases, up from 10,803 yesterday.
  • 253 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19, but that number is incomplete as more than 10 per cent of Ontario hospitals do not report bed census data on weekends. 
  • The vaccination status for new cases was not updated at publication time. 
  • 161 people are in ICU due to COVID-19. Of those, 143 people are testing positive and 18 are testing negative. There are 90 people in an intensive care unit (ICU) due to COVID on a ventilator.
  • 11.3 million people in Ontario (77 per cent of the population) are fully vaccinated, and five per cent of the province has one dose of COVID vaccine.
  • 1.1 million people have received a booster since August 2021.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 16.54 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 7.5 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 5.5 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 38,331 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 5.5 per cent positivity rate.
  • Today's new cases include 74 newborns to four year olds, 298 kids ages five to 11, 150 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 470 people between 20 and 39 years old, 361 people between 40 and 59 years old, 156 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 26 people over 80 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 633,683 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 612,066 recoveries and 10,079 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,300.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average seven-day incidence rate from Dec. 3 to Dec. 9 was 54 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 22.7 per cent compared to the seven-day period starting of Nov. 27.

Simcoe-Muskoka 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 106 new COVID cases in its report Friday, Dec. 10.

There are currently 748 active cases in the region. 

Thirty-three people from Simcoe County and two from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 16,513 cases of COVID-19 with 15,484 of those cases recovered and 281 cases ending in death.
