Winter’s first big snowfall is covering Newmarket, and with it comes the start of the town’s Winter Wonderland event at the Riverwalk Commons.
The town is kicking off the Frozen Fridays event Starting Dec. 3 with a lighting ceremony, followed by a new regular LED light show. Every week the town will treat the public to entertainment, skating and more.
“Frozen Fridays are the coolest place in town on Friday nights,” the town said.
The annual festivities run almost every Friday throughout December and will also feature train rides, free hot chocolate while supplies last, fire busker performances and photo opportunities.
The town is adding light shows as a new feature this year using the town’s LED tree every 30 minutes, starting at 6:45 p.m. The display will have flickering lights and music, though the municipality warns you to be cautious if you have sensitivity to these types of sensory displays.
COVID-19 protocols are in place, with the town encouraging six feet of physical distance from those outside your household where possible, and wearing a face mask is encouraged. Masks are required during some activities like the train rides and during performances. Attendees should also self-assess before arriving using the town’s online screening tool.
The festivities will run Fridays, including Dec. 3, 10, and 17, and on Thursdays before holidays, Dec. 23 and 30.
Performers include Lucy Loop from Hoop You (Dec. 3 and Dec. 23), Bex in Motion (Dec. 10 and 30), as well as Zola Molotvov Dec. 17.
The free events run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each night, with a 6:30 p.m. lighting ceremony kicking things off Dec. 3.
