Newmarket's Huron Heights hosting information night for arts program

The virtual event for grades 8 and 9 students and their families takes place Nov. 10

Huron Heights Secondary School in Newmarket is hosting a virtual information night for students currently in grades 8 and 9 who are interested in its arts program.

Registration for the event on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. for students and their families is required on the school website.

Grade 8 students are invited to apply to the secondary arts school that corresponds with their attendance boundary. Grade 9 students may apply to enter the program in Grade 10, space permitting.

York Region District School Board 's three other secondary arts schools are also hosting virtual information nights for interested students and families currently in Grade 8 and 9.

The four-year secondary arts program offers a package of specialized arts credits (two per year) that count toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students will receive a certificate upon completion.

To access the information night registration link, families should visit the arts webpage for each individual school. Families will have the opportunity to ask specific questions about the program during the virtual session.

Step one of the program's registration process opens Nov. 10, with the final deadline of Dec. 6.

Program details, attendance boundaries, selection requirements, contact information and application deadlines are posted at respective school websites.
 
Students may apply to study one of the arts program disciplines, including: dance, drama, visual arts and music (vocal and instrumental). Some schools offer piano, string and theatre technology. Multiple applications may be submitted by one student to one school.
