A York Region food inspector.

York Region inspectors charged restaurants in Newmarket and King for failing to maintain their facilities properly.

Cultures in Newmarket received a ticket for not maintaining clean floors in the food handling room, while Tikka Masala in King faced a ticket for maintaining the facility in a manner adversely affecting sanitary operation. Both charges were handed out during inspections in the past week.

According to an inspection report, Cultures at 17600 Yonge St. was not compliant on Dec. 19 for failing to ensure floors were kept in clean/good repair. As a result, inspectors served a ticket and commenced food handler education on-site. The inspection came after three inspection dates at the takeout restaurant earlier this month, where floors were an issue, but the restaurant was not ticketed at the time.

Tikka Masala at 12984 Hwy. 27 in Nobleton faced several issues during a Dec. 18 inspection. Inspectors found several issues, including ensuring that equipment surfaces were sanitized, failing to ensure waste was removed when necessary and failing to ensure floors were in good repair. The restaurant was served a ticket and food handler education was done on-site.

York Region Public Health states that the inspection report represents the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time.
