Restaurants in Newmarket and Markham were charged last week for public health violations.
Ruby Thai Kitchen, located in the Upper Canada Mall food court in Newmarket, was charged Jan. 8 for maintaining food premises in a manner that permitted adverse effects on food, according to a York Region public health inspection report.
The report stated the Thai restaurant failed to provide racks/shelves/pallets to store food that are readily cleanable and protect against contamination, as well as failing to ensure floors are kept clean/in good repair.
Public health inspectors provided food handler education on-site during last Wednesday’s inspection, as well as scheduled a re-inspection.
Re-inspection was conducted on Jan. 10, when the restaurant was again found not in compliance with ensuring equipment surfaces were cleaned/sanitized as necessary, as well as ensuring that the walls were kept clean/in good repair. Further re-inspection is to be conducted.
The One Pho, at 1661 Denison Street in Markham, was charged Jan. 6 following an inspection prompted by a complaint for failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration. The report stated that the restaurant failed to store and maintain potentially hazardous food at an internal temperature 4°C (40°F) and lower
and failed to properly handle and protect all food in a manner that prevents contamination or adulteration.
All listed violations were corrected during inspection. York Region Public Health provided food handler education on-site, posted a proof of public health sign and served the restaurant a ticket.
York Region Public Health states the inspection report represents the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time.
