Newmarket is inviting residents to enjoy free drop-in programs in recognition of Family Day Feb. 20.

The municipality will be holding free recreational activities for the public holiday across town facilities, including the Magna Centre and the Recreation Youth Centre and Skate Park. The free Winterfest event will also be held at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex's south parking lot.

“This Family Day weekend, the Town of Newmarket is offering fun activities for the whole family,” the municipality said on its website.

The activities include swimming, skating and skateboarding. Drop-in sports like badminton, basketball and pickleball will also be on offer.

The Magna Centre will have both free public swimming and group fitness programs throughout the day, but pre-registration is required.

Skating and group sports at the Magna Centre will be on a drop-in basis throughout the day. Full schedules are available at newmarket.ca/familydayfun.

The Recreation Youth Centre and Skate Park will also be having drop-in availability. Sessions for those born in 2011 and younger are available from 10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. and 4 to 5:50 p.m., while kids born in 2008 to 2013 can skate from 1 to 3:50 p.m. Those born in 2010 and older will have a session from 6 to 7:50 p.m.

Winterfest will also be running Feb. 18, with plenty of activities and attractions available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex.

Meanwhile, several facilities will be closed on the holiday Monday, including the town office, the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex and the Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place.
