The Town of Newmarket is inviting residents to participate in the next step in the process of reviewing and updating its guiding document.

Newmarket is hosting a virtual public information centre to go over the work done so far on the new official plan and seek more feedback regarding the ‘Future Newmarket’ vision. WSP Canada consultants have done work to outline a future direction for Newmarket in 11 policy areas and want more input from the public.

“Future Newmarket is a comprehensive community-driven vision for sustainable growth that will inform the town’s official plan review,” the municipality said. “This visionary document uses a ‘people-first’ approach to land use planning and emphasizes the importance of community engagement where diverse voices are heard and considered, builds trust between the community and town planners, and promotes growth aligned with Newmarket’s long-term vision and values.”

Newmarket has been working on an official plan review for more than a year. The “Future Newmarket” vision was unveiled to council in December, with ideas like adding more civic hubs in areas like Yonge-Davis intersection and Newmarket GO station.

The meeting will run Feb. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. via Zoom. You can register here, which is encouraged by the town but not required.

“Don't miss out on this opportunity to be part of the conversation,” the town said.
