York Region Public Health inspectors ordered the temporary closure of a restaurant in Georgina last week for operating in a manner permitting a health hazard.

Yummy Souvlaki at 4 - 200 Simcoe Ave. received the HPPA closure order after inspectors found several issues not in compliance during a Feb. 10 inspection. According to the inspection report, a public health official can issue the order to close a food establishment until certain steps are taken.

The inspection report posted Feb. 18 found several issues not in compliance, including handwashing stations being adequately equipped and accessible, protecting food from contamination, properly maintaining equipment and food contact surfaces, and adequately protecting against the entrance of pests.

After food inspectors did education on-site, they re-inspected the next day, Feb. 11. The inspection found the restaurant to be satisfactory, with no immediate action required by public health inspectors, and it was permitted to reopen.

York Region Public Health states that the inspection report represents the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time.
