An ambulance worth of food was collected over the weekend for the Newmarket Food Pantry in the annual drive run by St. John Ambulance.
On Saturday, April 2, St. John Ambulance set up outside the Real Canadian Superstore on Yonge Street with the goal of filling an ambulance with food donations.
More than 1,805 pounds of food and $183.65 in cash donations were collected. Store manager Ryan Willis also supported by donating $250 worth of groceries.
A second event was held on April 3 at Sobey's in Aurora, in support of the Aurora Food Pantry.
Despite the colder temperatures, they said it was an amazing drive and they had great support from the community.
Following the weekend's event, the Newmarket Food Pantry thanked St. John Ambulance for the continued support of the Fill an Ambulance campaign.
The Newmarket food bank has announced a change to its services, with the return of in-person shopping as of April 4.
"This will better serve our clients by ensuring they receive exactly what they need to meet their food requirements," it said.
Food pantry users can now book appointments online for a time to go and pickup the food they want. The shopping service was previously suspended due to the pandemic.
