This weekend will be your last chance to enjoy skating at Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons before sunshine and warm weather make it impossible.
The town has announced that the Mercedes-Benz Skating Feature will close on approximately March 20, depending on the weather.
“The Town of Newmarket is encouraging the community to enjoy an outdoor skate at the Mercedes-Benz Skating Feature at Riverwalk Commons before it closes for the season,” the municipality said.
Thousands have used the regular skating feature over the course of the winter, with it playing a central part in events like Frozen Fridays and the mayor’s New Year's Levee.
The town thanked staff for maintaining the rink over the course of the season.
With the closure of the skating feature, splash pad season will be coming. The town said to stay tuned for the opening date.
“We are getting ready for splash pad season and look forward to using the space in the warmer weather,” the town said.
Ward 5 Councillor Bob Kwapis also encouraged residents to enjoy the locale one last time for the winter.
"Take advantage of this weekend, and take your family out skating before it closes," he said on social media.
