The Town of East Gwillimbury broke ground in 2022 for the Health and Active Living Plaza, its first aquatic facility and eight-acre community park, with an anticipated opening in 2025.

The Town of East Gwillimbury's newly released 2023 strategic plan annual report highlights accomplishments over the past year that include an online customer service portal, new trails, and construction of the town’s first aquatic facility and eight-acre community park

The report is part of the town’s commitment to share updates with the community as part of the 2022 to 2026 strategic plan, according to a town news release.

Highlights from the report include: 

  • Modernized resident-facing services to provide easier access to information, including a new online customer service portal, online payments, and online forms;
  • A new snow removal financial assistance pilot program to assist seniors and individuals with disabilities; 
  • Completed the design of upcoming construction projects, including the Highway 48 sidewalk, Highway 11/Yonge Street multi-use path, and multiple bridge reconstruction and replacement projects. Construction for these projects is scheduled to begin in 2024. 
  • The town’s active trails and transportation, water/wastewater and transportation master plans were prepared for final public review. These plans outline future infrastructure requirements over the next 10 years; 
  • Construction of the Health and Active Living Plaza, the town’s first aquatic facility and eight-acre community park, with an anticipated opening in 2025. 
  • Both the Holland Landing and Mount Albert downtown revitalization projects are moving ahead with completed conceptual designs. Detailed design work will take place in 2024 along with utility relocation work. 
  • Completed a retrofit of the civic eentre customer service desk to better serve residents and opened a second customer service desk at the Sports Complex.

“When we started this term, each member of council had a vision of what they wanted to achieve for our residents and we consolidated that vision into our strategic plan,” said Mayor Virginia Hackson. “It is wonderful to see that vision becoming a reality through projects such as the Health and Active Living Plaza, new trails, increased online services, and more.”
