DJ GQ will be spinning the tunes at the no-alchol Conscious Club Night event July 20.

“There’s nowhere you can go if you either don’t want a drink or if you are a recovering addict,” said Angela Dacey, organizer. “Everything involves alcohol. I’m really big on health and wellness. I’m not against drinking, but at the same time I believe we can have fun without it.”

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door for the dance night at the Optimist Club of Newmarket, 55 Forhan Ave., beginning at 8 p.m.

“With the club night, I don’t want it to be a deep, spiritual experience, I want it to have fun,” said Dacey. “I want it to be where people can come out early, they can come out if they are in recovery and they felt it was a safe place.”

DJ GQ, George Quarcoo, will spin a selection of dancehall, reggaeton, pop, afro and disco songs to the crowd. He is visually impaired and plays songs based on how partygoers react.

“I’m a blind DJ, so I can’t see the crowd and who I’m playing to,” said Quarcoo. “I tend to play a little bit of everything, pop, soca, afro beats, rock; whatever it is I try to keep the people happy.”

While alcohol will not be available, a variety of non-alcoholic beer, wine, and spritzers will be on offer for $5 each. Bubbly water will cost $2. There is no dress code for the event.

“I’m interested to see how it pans out because when you think of parties, you think of people going out to have fun with drinks but this is a non-alcoholic theme,” said Quarcoo. “I’m interested to see how it will be received by the patrons that come out.”

Organizers of the event want to offer a nightlife experience that everyone can enjoy without driving impaired and having hangovers the next day. They prefer to choose health and wellness for everyone to enjoy.

“I wanted to do this for many years,” said Dacey. “I have been in Newmarket running events with my company for 28 years. I have never been a huge drinker and I work with veterans at Cadence Health and Wellness who are going through addiction recovery.”

The event caters to adults 19 years old or older.
