York Region Food Network’s (YRFN) virtual fundraiser, The Charitable Chef, has teamed up with King Cole Ducks to offer a culinary treat that will also raise funds for its essential services.
Demand for community food programs continues to increase, however due to COVID-19 restrictions, YRFN has not been able to hold its event that typically generates the majority of its annual fundraising revenue.
"YRFN is a resourceful non-profit organization whose small and dynamic team connects and empowers people to access healthy food through education and advocacy. Our work is guided by the fundamental belief in the right to food," according to a YRFN news release.
Here's how you can enjoy a memorable cooking experience, which takes place March 25 from 6 to 8 p.m., while supporting a vital community service:
- Register here, tickets are $100 for dinner for two;
- Choose to have your ingredient kit delivered, or pick it up from York Region Food Network in Aurora;
- Zoom in on event day and Chef Mike Thompson from King Cole Ducks will transform you into a gourmet chef by walking you through the creation of a local, seasonal meal featuring duck.
Along with being extremely flavourful, duck provides some of the beneficial nutrients common in red meat (such as iron, selenium and niacin), without as much saturated fat — an excellent source of protein and healthy fat.
"This event is a delicious way to highlight York Region’s agricultural treasures while also supporting York Region Food Network’s community food programs," the news release states.
“This event fits perfectly into what we at King Cole Ducks want to share with people in our own backyard”, says Chris Conzelmann of King Cole Ducks. “It gives us the opportunity to share our 70 years and four generation family farm story while allowing people to experience the fantastic flavours duck has to offer. It doesn’t get any more local than this."
