NEWS RELEASE
AFTER HOURS BIG BAND
*************************
Ballroom dancing is experiencing a worldwide resurgence, and residents of the Newmarket-Aurora area can discover the joy of dancing at a unique event on Valentine’s Day.
The night of Feb. 14 will bring dancers and aspiring dancers to the Aurora Legion to listen to big band dance music and take part in lessons and demonstrations by professional dance studios.
The event, called Dance the Night Away, is organized by the After Hours Big Band with the aim of bringing together the music and dance communities of Newmarket-Aurora.
“We plan to make this the best party of the season,” says music director Dr. Michael Kearns. “It arises out of our band’s love of jazz traditions, including ballroom and Latin dancing. People will be able to listen and learn, as well as dance to exciting music.”
Dance studios are flourishing in York Region, in keeping with rising worldwide interest. This is reflected in the popularity of TV shows such as Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and Flirty Dancing, as well global music-chart successes by singer/dancers such as Camila Cabello, Ozuna and Ariana Grande.
Demonstrations and lessons will be presented during the Valentine’s evening by:
- CDA Dance Academy, Newmarket (www.cdadanceacademy.com);
- Chance Dance Centre, Holland Landing (www.chancedancecentre.com);
- Dance Stream Studio, Vaughan (http://thedancestream.com).
Doors will open at 7 p.m. at the Aurora Legion, 105 Industrial Parkway North. The evening will include light food and treats along with the Legion’s ballroom bar. Tickets at $30 can be purchased at the Legion or online at www.afterhoursbigband.ca.
