The man accused of first-degree murder of a senior in Newmarket had his case adjourned as new counsel comes on.
The 56-year-old Phillip Rulli appeared via CCTV before a judge-led intensive case management court Nov. 5 but had his case deferred as new counsel reviews the case. He is to appear in court next on Dec. 20.
He has previously said he admitted to hitting his bail officer and again spoke briefly of admitting to it in his court appearance.
Rulli is accused of the murder of 66-year-old Dennis Sweet in an apartment building on Timothy Street and Prospect Street.
York Regional Police arrived at the seniors housing building at Timothy Street and Prospect Street on Sept. 2 at about 8:50 a.m. where they found Sweet, who had been stabbed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accused and the victim were known to each other, police said.
Rulli had lost his counsel in his last appearance in court and had yelled expletives in a previous appearance. But he was calmer in his Nov. 5 appearance, as the court discussed his case.
“Have a great day everyone,” Rulli said as he departed.
