On behalf of York Regional Council and The Regional Municipality of York, it gives me great pleasure to wish York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe a long, healthy and happy retirement.
Over the span of four decades, Chief Jolliffe has been dedicated to the safety and well-being of the community and residents he served. Chief Jolliffe started his career in September 1979 with Edmonton Police Services and returned home to York Region in 1998 to join York Regional Police. He was appointed Chief of Police in December 2010.
Throughout his long and distinguished career, Chief Jolliffe has been a highly respected and admired officer of the law. His tremendous contributions to policing have been recognized with countless awards and accolades including the Officer of the Order of Merit for Police Forces and both the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals.
As a strong, approachable and compassionate leader, Chief Jolliffe has positioned York Regional Police as one of the leading forces in Canada, while at the same time tirelessly supporting the mental well-being of the entire membership.
Policing one of Canada’s fastest growing and most diverse communities, Chief Jolliffe developed a strong connection to the community through the development of outreach programs aimed at building relationships and trust. As a vision-inspired and values-driven leader, his legacy of dedication, commitment and community leadership will continue for generations to come.
It has been an honour and privilege to work alongside Chief Jolliffe. York Region is a stronger, safer and more caring community thanks to his contributions. On behalf of Regional Council and York Region’s 1.2 million residents, thank you Chief Jolliffe for your service to our community.
In recognition of Chief Jolliffe’s last day with York Regional Police, Thursday, April 30, 2020 has been proclaimed Chief Eric Jolliffe Day in York Region.
