Overnight parking restrictions on Newmarket streets take effect tomorrow, Nov. 1, until April 15, with six alternative parking lots available to residents and their guests.
During winter, vehicles are banned from parking on the street from 2 to 6 a.m. for snow removal, a town news release stated. Regardless of whether or not there is snow on the ground, parking enforcement will be in effect. The fine for parking on street/roadway between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m. is $100.
Residents can park in select municipal lots overnight between 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. by applying for a free digital permit through the Town’s online parking portal at parking.newmarket.ca. The lots must be cleared of vehicles by 7 a.m. for snow clearing and daytime users.
The designated parking area are:
- Municipal Offices, 395 Mulock Dr.
- Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr.
- Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 100 Eagle St.
- Downtown Newmarket – P3 Parking Lot, Doug Duncan Drive
- Bonshaw Park, 130 Bonshaw Ave.
- George Richardson Park, 395 Bayview Parkway
All permits will be issued electronically, with print copies not required for display in vehicles, the town said. There are designated spaces within each lot with signs marking the spaces.
Residents should consider this option when they have overnight guests, are hosting parties and need a safe space for guests to leave their vehicle overnight if they are having a few drinks, or to leave a vehicle downtown after a special dinner on Main Street, the town added.
You can take part in the town's residential parking study to how to support the parking needs of the community as it grows at HeyNewmarket.ca/ResidentialParkingStudy.
