Starbucks and LA Fitness in Aurora are among the 15 charges laid for businesses and individuals violating COVID-19 re-opening rules in the past two weeks in York Region.
Between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12, the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force inspected 406 businesses and 15 charges were laid.
LA Fitness at 15650 Bayview Ave. in Aurora was charged for not screening patrons, not checking vaccination status, and not maintaining a contact list.
Also in Aurora, Starbucks at 14980 Yonge St. was charged for not having a COVID-19 safety plan posted in a conspicuous place.
Markham Suites Hotel at 8500 Warden Ave. was charged for masks not being worn in the kitchen.
In Vaughan, a Subway restaurant at 9661 Jane St. was charged for having an incomplete COVID-19 safety plan.
Also in Vaughan, the Vaughan Sportsplex received three charges. One was for a lack of masks worn by spectators and coaches. One was for a lack of physical distancing. The final charge was for not having a COVID-19 safety plan posted in a conspicuous place.
Along with the charges laid, the task force carried out 182 compliance education activities in the past two weeks. Five of those were in the Town of Newmarket.
