Do you know a sporting hero deserving of recognition? The Aurora Sports Hall of Fame is asking for nominations from the public for its 2025 inductee class.
The nominations are open across several categories, including:
- Athlete, for individuals who have had athletic success;
- Coach, for those who have made a lasting impact through coaching;
- Builder, for individuals who have significantly contributed to the development of sports culture in Aurora.
There are also two new categories this year, including:
- Teams, for groups that have achieved success and represented Aurora with distinction;
- Media, for those in sports media who have made a meaningful impact on sports through journalism, broadcasting, or other media contributions.
"The heart of the nomination process lies within the community. Every inductee’s journey to the hall of fame begins with someone recognizing their impact and stepping forward to nominate them,” Javed Khan, president and chair of the hall of fame said in a news release. “This is a truly community-driven initiative, providing an opportunity for residents to honour those who have shaped Aurora’s sporting legacy."
In 2024, Olympic swimmer and medallist Marcel Gery, Jamaican bobsled Olympian and track champion Milton Hart, seasoned rugby coach Sandy Townsend and table tennis world champion Grace Wong were inducted into the hall of fame at a ceremony in November.
