Re: Ontario projecting $6.6B deficit — including $3B in 'rebate' cheques, Oct. 30, 2024.
Premier Doug Ford recently announced a $200 taxpayer rebate to “help” Ontarians, or is it to earn some votes in the upcoming election?
Taxpayers expect their money to be put into much-needed resources that benefit the population.
As a psychology student and researcher for Breaking Stigmas, a club promoting mental health awareness at York University, it is evident that mental health issues continue to rise, particularly in youth. These funds will be more useful for mental health intervention and treatments as well as making these resources more accessible to the public, especially to marginalized and low-income communities.
Due to increased housing and food prices, Ontarians have no choice but to use their salary on physical necessities, which leaves little to nothing for therapy, assessments, or medications.
It is essential that the mental health of Ontarians is made a priority rather than a triviality.
