Following the recent tragedy on Highway 11 that resulted in someone losing their life, others injured, and tens of thousands of dollars in damage, why hasn't anything been done to address the safety concerns on Highway 11 between Barrie and Orillia?
I commute to Orillia from Barrie every day for work. In the winter, there isn't a month that goes by without a serious accident on this highway.
This year in particular, the weather has been treacherous for driving. It is incredible how once you pass the area of about Line 5 to Line 13, the weather changes. It can be sunny in Barrie but a whiteout in Orillia.
It seems to me that a contributing aspect to the danger of the highway that is within our control are the large fields and lack of windbreaks. These fields allow for snow squalls to blow across the highway.
Can the County and Oro-Medonte work with the property owners to put up a snow fence and plant some tress at least? What about plows? Are the plows being appropriately deployed when there is a snowstorm? It should be the first priority given the level of risk of driving on the highway.
